Camagüey, Cuba, April 19th.- «Achieving quality graduates with high comprehensive training in which the link with the community and social work stands out is the fundamental purpose of the youth event», declared José Ángel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health of Cuba, during the Eighth National Meeting of Students of Medical Sciences, which takes place at the Carlos J. Finlay House of Higher Studies, in this city.

The head of the branch reflected that it is a priority of the event to discuss the training of competent professionals with high humanistic values, from medical sciences for the future of the country.

Dr. Portal Miranda highlighted that among the topics to be debated, by the participants from all the provinces of the country and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, communication and defense of the work of the Revolution in the digital scenario stand out; both vital in the preparation that future graduates of Medical Sciences require.

He pointed out that after two years without taking place, «the youth meeting is historic, because not only is it continuity of the debates of the XII Congress of the Union of Young Communists, but because the country’s economic limitations are not an obstacle to its development».

He stressed that Camagüey organized a unifying event, which also has as its essence the link with the community.

He said that what was experienced during the days of debates, visits to communities and institutions -such as the Home for Children without Family Protection in the Plaza de La Habana, in the city of Camagüey-, and youthful joy ensures an event that imprints optimism for Cuba.

Ricardo Rodríguez González, national president of the University Student Federation (FEU), highlighted the vocation of service of Cuban university students, essentially those of Medical Sciences.

The youth leader reported that paths will be outlined to enrich the community and social work of the students from a marked academic and scientific vision, to consolidate their preparation through also social research, arising from that close link with the population and to transform the communication process of the FEU in the digital scenario, which needs to get closer to the reality of all students and support the Cuban social and humanist project.
