Camagüey, Cuba, Jul 21st.- Nobody forced or summoned them, it was a gesture of the heart that little by little gained followers and that today materialized in boxes and boxes of solidarity that came from Matanzas to Camagüey for those who need it.
And it is that after the intense rains that occurred at the beginning of June in the province and that caused flooding and damage to homes, expressions of solidarity were received from various provinces such as Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus and Artemisa.
Now Matanzas has joined, from where clothes, toiletries, shoes and even toys for children arrived on Thursday night.
As detailed by the member of the secretariat of the Provincial Committee of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC) in Matanzas, Teresa Montelier Cuesta, “the initiative came from the workers themselves and later became a mobilization throughout the territory and was joined by union sections, other mass organizations, the Government and the Party.
“We bring this from the heart and it is something that is only seen in Cuba. People contribute their grain of sand and take away theirs to give it. It is also a sign of the unity and commitment of our working people.
«August will mark one year since the fatality of the supertankers and on that occasion Cuba and the world joined us and now, of course, it was our turn to support Camagüey and the eastern provinces that were affected by the rain».
On behalf of the people of Camagüey, Yulián León Rondón, general secretary of the Provincial Committee of the CTC, thanked the gesture and said that “we will be eternally grateful.
«This is precisely what the Commander in Chief taught us: share what we have, not give what we have in excess. And these gestures exalt the people and the workers much more.
