Camagüey, Cuba, April 20th.- This April 19, a historic day for the country, members of the National Union of Historians of Cuba and the Enrique José Varona Provincial Center of Books and Literature joined together to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the events from Playa Girón.

At the provincial headquarters of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, the writers and researchers Francisco Luna and Fernando Crespo spoke about the events that in April 1961 demonstrated the decision of a people to fight alongside their leaders to defend the sovereignty achieved.

There, the book Peasant Struggles in Camagüey (1939-1958) was presented, a research by Ricardo Pérez Lumpuig and Carlos Antonio Córdova Martínez, which shows the work of the sector during the years of confrontation with the existing republican dictatorships on the island.

In the literary Sabana gathering, led by the writer Benito Estrada and hosted once a month by the Mariana Grajales Bookstore, in the historic center of Camagüey; The fighter from Playa Girón, Juan Horta Trujillo, was present; in addition to the author Daimy Díaz Laborda and the singer-songwriter Herminio Palacio.
