Camagüey, Cuba, April 11th.- Currently several health promotion and education actions are being carried out in this region in order to avoid new infections with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Ricardo Ferro Escoda, specialist in the STI HIV/AIDS Educational Component of the municipality of Camagüey, said that among these is the implementation of the Start now campaign, in which all workers in the country’s health system are involved.

«Their objective, he said, is to reach patients who are far from the service so that they start treatment with retrovirals, or those who are not adherent look for other variants that contribute to raising their quality of life».

Since December 2023, the implementation of the Start Now campaign began throughout the island, the purpose of which is for every HIV-positive person to comply with the established care protocols, a practice that above all will be beneficial for the person.

Ferro Escoda said that health and educational promotion actions are maintained in all areas of the capital of Camagüey, always focused on raising the risk perception of the population and maintaining safe sexual relations.

In addition, he invited the inhabitants of the City of Tinajones to accompany them this April 11, at 8:00 p.m. at the Avellaneda theater, where the artistic gala will take place to present the Esperanza Awards for the year 2023.
