Domingo: a camagüeyan dedicated to the fishing industry

Camagüey, Cuba, April 9th.- At only 18 years old, local Domingo Pérez Fi began his working life as a diesel mechanic in the Cuban Fishing Fleet, in Havana.

This work allowed him to travel hundreds of thousands of kilometers across the seas and reach, and even see, the five continents.

He traveled to more than twenty countries such as Mexico, Canada, the United States, Germany, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Angola, Spain and the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), among others.

With the fall of the socialist camp and the arrival of the special period, in the 1990s, he returned to his homeland and joined the Camagüey Fishing Company (PESCACAM) group.

In the Red Star Base Business Unit, belonging to that entity, he has been performing the duties of Brigade Chief and docker for almost three decades, where he has earned several incentives.

On the occasion of the Fishing Industry Worker’s Day being celebrated this April 8, Domingo Pérez Fi received recognition for remaining 49 uninterrupted years with good performance in the sector, in addition to the Aracelio Iglesias Distinction, awarded by the National Union of the sector.
