Camagüey, Cuba, February 3th.- The member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, received the status of Illustrious Guest of Camagüey; while also a member of the Political Bureau and vice president of the Republic, Salvador Valdés Mesa, deserved the Illustrious Son, both recognitions conferred by the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power.

The delivery took place during the solemn session of that structure, regarding the 510th anniversary of the founding of the former town of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe.

In addition, the replica of the City Shield was awarded to the member of the Central Committee and vice prime minister of the Republic, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca; and to the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, first colonel Orlando Cardoso Villavicencio; and in all cases the contribution towards the development of the demarcation was distinguished.

Before deputies to Parliament, delegates to the Municipal Assembly, authorities from the rest of the Camagüey districts and residents in general, the president of the governing body in the Camagüey capital, Dixamy Rodríguez Gómez, acknowledged that the stage that is beginning is a lot of work, but also multiple motivations to correct distortions and re-boost the economy, with emphasis on increasing the production of material goods and services.

As principles in the conduct of the processes, he referred to exchange, participation and collective contribution, with inspiration in intransigence, combativeness, greatness and the example of the mambisa cavalry of Ignacio Agramonte.

For his part, José Rodríguez Barreras, director of the Office of the Historian of the City of Camagüey (OHCC), highlighted that, with unity and the sense of safeguarding the heritage, works can be promoted despite the difficult economic situation that The country faces, as has happened in the city on this anniversary, with materializations that contribute to development.

He expressed pride in the tangible values, the vast culture, the peculiar customs and the feelings of attachment to this land of those who inhabit the city, and reiterated the responsibility and institutional and citizen commitment in the preservation of that material and intangible legacy.

Another moment was the OHCC’s delivery of the city’s chronicles, corresponding to the last year, to the municipal government, and at the end of the solemn session, attendees enjoyed an artistic show directed by Fernando Medrano Vireya.
