Camagüey, Dec 12th.- Until next December 15, Camagüey becomes the host of the 44th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, this event presents approximately a dozen films that highlight the best of independent cinema at the local and regional level.

In an intimate gala held at the Nuevo Mundo Audiovisual Complex, the Confluencias Duo captivated the audience with emblematic musical performances of great Cuban films, in addition to paying tribute to Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Titón) on the 95th anniversary of his birth.

Juan Antonio García Borrero, renowned film critic and coordinator of the El Callejón de los Milagros Project, highlighted in his inaugural speech that cinema continues to be a cultural, unifying and resplendent meeting point.

He also emphasized the importance of returning to these spaces that celebrate and recognize cinematic identity.

Yenisleydis Sáez Flores, director of the Provincial Film Center, considers that holding this event in the territory represents the fulfillment of a commitment to the Camagüey public, who is fond of enjoying the magic of the seventh art as a family.

He added that since it was announced that Camagüey would host the event, a program was designed in order to extend the film exhibition to the municipalities of Florida, Vertientes and Sierra de Cubitas, which have the necessary technical equipment to carry out the screenings.

Sáez Flores revealed that the award-winning works from the El Almacén de la Imagen Audiovisual Exhibition will also be exhibited, among which are Sueños, directed by Ricardo de la Paz Cervantes; To Camagüey my red balloon, by Marianne Portuondo Méndez; and Telón, under the direction of Henry de Armas Leyva.

The latter, Telón, is currently in competition in the Animation Contest of the 44th Festival of New Latin American Cinema, presenting the work Tu Estrella.

One of the most attractive proposals of the Camagüey version of this event is the Cibertertulia Callejón de los Milagros, moderated by Juan Antonio García Borrero, in which the background of the new Latin American cinema will be discussed, focusing on two fundamental aspects: novelty and identity, exploring to what extent it is innovative and to what extent it reflects Latin American identity.
