Camagüey, Cuba, Dec 11th.- As part of the program of activities of the V edition of the Camagua International Folk Dance Festival, the two-person exhibition Gris was inaugurated at the Fidelio Ponce de León Gallery, belonging to the Office of the Historian of the City of Camagüey with black stitching, by the plastic artists Ileana Sánchez and Joel Jover, who bring together their creations for the second time.

The exhibition is made up of 23 works in oil and acrylic, where the gray nuances that are achieved by mixing white with black stand out. This style portrays artistic personalities, friends, family and even their pets.

“To create, to paint, I need to like that person, I need to like that person’s work, because if I don’t like it I simply can’t paint them, in this case all the people who are represented in these paintings have marked my life», said Ileana Sánchez.

Joel Jover, who also follows the path of gray, prefers to use another method consisting of constructing his images with a series of filigrees with which he manages to build the figure to achieve the baroque format.

He told the press that Ileana’s works and his own have a great similarity because, in addition to highlighting the gray, almost all of them are portraits, «she makes them more pop-art in her own way and he makes them more expressionist».

The presentation – which will be on display to the public for about a month – aims to convey sobriety and calm to viewers, according to the artists’ criteria, and also to make them enjoy the gray for a moment and not miss the color.
