In Camagüey, women at the forefront of the Revolution

Camagüey, Cuba, December 10th.- The education of children and families, the study and employment of young people, the care of the elderly and the happiness of all occupied the debates in the Provincial Assembly of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC, Spanish Acronym) in Camagüey corresponding to its XI Congress.

Among the topics of the meeting were also attention to minor victims, addictions, the return to life in society of the sanctioned women, the most vulnerable communities, the educational work in them, the permanent connection to homes for children without family protection, schools such as the Ramiro Guerra behavioral school and the Comprehensive Training School, and daily and permanent work in conjunction with education.

Teresa Amarelle Boué, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and general secretary of the FMC, chaired the meeting and shared the dialogue with precise invitations to act in the community, with families, in the prevention of social problems and guidance daily, in accordance with the proposals of several of the 175 delegates.

During the interventions, the importance of a greater role in school councils, sustained participation in the Educate Your Child program, achievements such as the creation of circles of interest for patriotic women and activities around the birthday of the eternal president Vilma Espín Guillois, who helped promote history and patriotic sentiment.

Odalis Pérez Rodríguez, official of the Central Committee of the PCC, insisted on strengthening the base structures to, from there, influence more in the identification and solution of problems.

The young Laura Marian Bacallao Padrón spoke about the potential of the Law degree at the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz to prepare families against workplace harassment and cyberbullying, as well as the urgency of influencing the high rates of pregnant teenagers in the province.

About Amarelle Boué indicated prioritizing work in the communities and designing, together with the University and other centers, ways to prevent these sad situations that Cuban society faces.

“We have to address the demographic dynamics, but it cannot be the responsibility of the State, we have to see how we can offer more courses, more options for women to work”, invited delegate Yanixi Carrazana.

The vertientine Yurisey Echeverría called to let empowerment “move us” and explained that in an eminently agricultural territory like hers, machismo must be faced with the strength of women.

Numancia García alluded to the presence of women in political and governmental responsibilities, about which the young Danay Hernández, 17 years old, assured that “we young people have to be willing and do everything we can do to sustain the Revolution, because I am the one who is sure that she is defending what she has to defend with the necessary preparation for that», with a certainty that earned everyone present standing up to applaud her.

Isabel Gonzalez, delegate for the municipality of Esmeralda, referred to the employment opportunities that Camagüey women have in the northern keys of the province, where many young women work alongside her, even in management roles.

Yanixi Carrazana also pointed out the role of new economic actors as a source of employment that can benefit many women and with which ties must be strengthened.

The example of the La Liliana farm moved the audience, thanks to the example of the Camagüeyan farm of the same name and its search for alternatives to produce flour and bread suitable for consumption by people with celiac disease, an autoimmune condition characterized by chronic inflammation of the near the small intestine, caused by exposure to gliadin, a plant protein from some grains in the diet.

With his own work on the land, to which he dedicated himself after becoming an acting professional, he cares for 96 children with celiac disease, dependent on imported foods and whom the territory is responsible for searching for in neighboring provinces, in an exemplary response of food sovereignty and a proof of how much love can do.

On the day, Yodelkis Fajardo Orihuela was re-elected to lead the FMC in the province and to the new secretariat. The proposals for the National Secretariat and the delegation to the XI Congress of the organization to be held next March were also presented.

Federico Hernández Hernández, member of the Central Committee of the Party and its first secretary in the territory, described the process developed by the Federation from the municipalities as excellent and asserted that “this assembly has been brilliant in its interventions, but it will go down in history not because what has been said, but by what we do”.

“There is no task, not only of the organization, but of everything the country does, where the prominence of women is not (…) here there are mayors, there are secretaries, there are leaders of grassroots production units (…) and If we are going to do an analysis of why they do it, there is no discussion, because they do it to defend the Revolution”, he continued.

Hernández Hernández stressed that the Revolution relies on women “as it has done in history, in the present and in the future and the women of Camagüey will demonstrate that it can be done”, and highlighted: “no one has any doubts about the Revolution that it is unstoppable and If it is in the hands of women, the Revolution will always be eternal».
