Camagüey, Cuba, Aug 31th.- In Camagüey, the conditions are ready to start the 2023-2024 school year on September 4th, with the assurance of the necessary teaching coverage for the education of more than 110 thousand students in 693 schools.
Loreley Suárez Capdevila, general director of the sector, explained today at a press conference that the stability of the workforce will constitute the main challenge, since the projection is 89.9 percent completion with a deficit of 1,482 teachers.
The main demands, she stated, are concentrated in the municipalities of Camagüey, Vertientes and Nuevitas, and specifically, in basic secondary, pre-university, polytechnic education, as well as in the Máximo Gómez Báez Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences (IPVCE), the Institute Agricultural Polytechnic (IPA, Spanish Acronym) Mártires de Pino 3 and the Nicolás Guillén Batista Pedagogical School.
She commented that as in other school periods, the province will use alternatives through hourly contracts with graduate teaching professionals who do not remain active, the university students of the Educando por Amor contingent, in addition to increasing the student-teacher relationship and the support of specialists of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER, Spanish Acronym) in the territory.
In this teaching calendar, she pointed out, the students of the third and fourth years of the pedagogical careers of the day course will be located in the different schools, based on the adequacy of their classes at the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz, which will allow them to assume at least two groups.
Likewise, she said that the students of the fourth year of the Nicolás Guillén Batista Pedagogical School will be selected so that, in correspondence with their preparation and the needs of the municipalities, they alternate training as future teachers with teaching in the institutions that require it.
In this school year, she said, we will also have the 487 recent graduates of the pedagogical careers of the University of Camagüey, although of that figure, only 286 teachers will be incorporated in September and the rest in the month of February, when they conclude their military service.
The director added that regarding the Third Educational Improvement, if the first books of the new study programs arrive in the province, they would begin to be applied in the first and fourth grades of primary education, the seventh grade of basic secondary, the tenth pre-university and the first year of technical and professional education.
With a few days left before the start of the new school year, she highlighted that construction work is being completed in the kitchen-dining room area of the Antonio Maceo elementary school in the municipality of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and on the roof of the IPA Alfredo Álvarez Mola de Sibanicú, while the repair of the four residences of the Nicolás Guillén Pedagogical School is completed and the Abel Santamaría of Esmeralda secondary school is remodeled to host the provincial act of September 4.
