Camagüey, Cuba, Aug 16th.- With the merger of all the women’s organizations that existed on the Island, the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC, Spanish Acronym) was founded on August 23rd, 1960, at which time Fidel Castro Ruz gave a speech highlighting their role in the development of the Revolution.

Vilma Espín was chosen to lead this group that since its inception has been a leader in the defense of women’s rights, so that today the eternal president of the Federation is an example in each of the tasks they carry out.

This August the FMC celebrates its 63rd birthday, so in the municipality of Camagüey several activities are carried out to commemorate the date, on the same Yuneisi Caballero Álvarez, secretary of the organization in the city of Camagüey, points out that as part of the festivities they continue the assembly processes prior to the XI Congress.

In addition, he highlighted the intention of the secretariat in the Ciudad de los Tinajones to celebrate a political-cultural gala in homage to the anniversary of August 23rd, in which all the local members of the organization participate.

In the midst of these celebrations for the 63rd anniversary, outstanding Camagüeyan women will be recognized for their contribution to the work in the neighborhoods and labor centers, the distinctions will be given at the level of blocks and institutions based on joint actions with the unions.

Since its birth -on August 23rd-, 1960, the Federation of Cuban Women was a decisive force for the Revolution, a support for all the women who have in this structure a body that defends their rights, which does not stop and takes important steps in the fight for gender equality.
