The Telecommunications Company of Cuba is the protagonist in decisive processes in Camagüey

Camagüey, Cuba, Aug 15th.- The development of computerization and connectivity supports for natural persons and the legal sector, as well as the growth of services, fundamentally in mobile telephony, characterized the actions of the Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA, Spanish Acronym ), in Camagüey during the first semester of this year.

This Monday, at a press conference, Mailen Durán Rodríguez, a specialist in Institutional Communication, explained the strategy conceived for the business environment, which includes exchanges and proper advice on the alternatives to access the options they propose.

He explained that in a scenario characterized by difficulties in the supply of lines, until the end of July the province registered 17,834 new cell phone services.

«The economic complexities do not allow the execution of new radio bases (28 planned for 2024), however today there are 19 thousand homes in Camagüey with Internet access and 3,435 permanent accounts were incorporated, necessary for access to cyberspace from homes, public sites and other platforms.

Regarding fixed telephony, she highlighted that the increase was discreet, with 500 new services that were already planned from 2022, while alliances are achieved with economic actors from the promotion of combined packages for the legal sector, with preference for the mobile network.

She added that ETECSA currently has 97 public Wi-Fi sites in the territory, and of the 288 micro, small, and medium-sized companies approved in this region, 104 have a contract with the entity.

As one of the good news, Durán Rodríguez mentioned the implementation of the MiTransfer exchange for telecommunications agents, which promotes, among other benefits, expanding the offers and making all operations without limits.

She took the opportunity to share some improvements in various cabinets, which enables higher quality and lower percentage of interruptions, as well as the solution to pending complaints.

She also said that micro base stations were relocated and put into operation that favor 3G coverage and ensure access to more people to the mobile network, one of the many examples for the sake of computerization in communities.

The new telephone board at the Eduardo Agramonte Piña Provincial Pediatric Hospital; the work in the tourist center of Cayo Cruz; the external plant in the popular councils Cándido González, in Santa Cruz del Sur; Brasil, in Esmeralda, and Sola, in Sierra de Cubitas, next to the cabinet installed in the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz denote, in addition, the work of Camagüey’s telecommunications workers.

On the other hand, Rafael Ángel Ramos Pimentel, head of the Commercial and Marketing Department, referred to the will to gradually encourage the use of electronic collection and payment channels throughout the network, which has been worked on since the start of the company’s computerization policy.

It is a matter, he added, «of reducing the circulation of cash in this way, and achieving the development and generalization of the EnZona and Transfermóvil platforms, a priority of the digital transformation to which we aspire».

Such purposes are part of the bankarization program, which is now accelerating -because for years Cuba has been working on its conception, organization and the creation of conditions-, and in this sense ETECSA intervenes as a provider of supports and services with a leading role in the business system.

«The entire sales network has the possibility of making the payment through Transfermóvil, what is needed is to implement it, and for this it is also necessary to create a culture and educate users on these issues”, added Ramos Pimentel.

In the coming days, actions are planned to stimulate the use of said electronic channels, such as quick collection, training for telecommunications agents, requalification of executives in banking, and the application of payment options through electronic commerce.

Luel García Lorenzo, director of the Territorial Division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company in Camagüey, asserted that bankarization will advance in places where the conditions exist and will gradually rise, not only for benefits, security, efficiency, the savings and transparency of the process, but for what it represents for the Cuban economy.
