Camagüey, Cuba, April 10th.- At the Santa Cecilia Convention Center, in the City of Tinajones, the colloquium The Assembly of Guáimaro in the history of the Homeland took place as part of the activities carried out in Camagüey territory to commemorate the 155th anniversary of the Guáimaro Assembly, on April 10, 1869.

The event began with the conference From the Constitution of Guáimaro to the Constitution of 2019, by Homero Acosta Álvarez, secretary of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, who referred to the high value in the constituent history of Cuba that the first Magna Carta has and the legitimation of the Cuban socialist system that the current one represents.

During the colloquium, the conference The Constitution of Guáimaro, the backbone of the Revolution, by Eduardo Torres Cueva, national president of the José Martí Cultural Society, was also presented, who highlighted in his speech the importance of history for the present and the value of the fact in the sense of Cuban nationality.

Borroto Fernández, historian of the territory that became the cradle of constitutionalism in Cuba, and The Constitution of Guáimaro were also held. Birth of the Republic, by Carlos Manuel Villabella Armegol, professor at the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz.

The colloquium The Assembly of Guáimaro in the history of the Homeland was sponsored by the Office of the Historian of the City of Camagüey, the National Union of Historians of Cuba, the José Martí Cultural Society, the University of Camagüey and the Scientific Society of Constitutional Law and Administrative of the National Union of Jurists of Cuba.
