Camagüey, Cuba, October 26th.- With the staged reading of Ratas, a 2015 text by Freddys Nuñez Estenoz, initiated the exchange between the Camagüey drama group and journalists who are members of the specialized Gender and Communication circle.

Regarding Orange Day, the Union of Cuban Journalists in the territory invited the playwright and director Nuñez Estenoz, along with the cast of Teatro del Viento, to debate about the treatment of gender themes in his work, which already exceeds 20 years of creative work.

Leonardo Leyva, playwright and advisor to the group, said that in the scenes shown in Ratas “there are various forms of violence as it is a writing exercise where crime will be standardized. We see a dysfunctional family, marriage plays out in a perverse way that the children reproduce and naturalize.

“It is an attempt to contribute to dismantling the historical thinking that assigns certain roles to men and women, a show that does not denounce crime but rather the passive attitude towards rape”, he commented.

Freddys, for his part, brought the audience closer to moments and topics reflected in works such as Aceite+Vinagre =Familia, Urracas, Haven-Sola-Cubitas and Romeo y Julieta.cu, among them domestic violence, prostitution and the social vulnerabilities that They push individuals into higher risk areas.

Precisely in Romeo y Julieta.cu, the most recent production by the Camagüey cast, crimes against people are reported that in recent months were reported on different digital platforms by the population, «because we are only left with the romance in Shakespeare’s story but behind it there is a very turbulent context that we recontextualize for the occasion”, said the playwright.

“As artists we have the responsibility to look out for it, which does not mean that we are right. Our purpose is not to heal, but to illuminate those sores, to contribute to recognizing the problems, because the theater is an ideal space to debate such issues”.

Prior to the XI Congress of the UPEC, the organization in Camagüey promotes different spaces for exchange and improvement for the union in order to fulfill in the best possible way the social responsibility of the Cuban press in current times.
