Camagüey, Cuba, Sep 7th.- For two days, the Ciudad de los Tinajones hosted representatives of the Cuban Council of Churches and several eastern provinces for a meeting of women living with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

Nestora Padilla Zapata, who works in the Deacon area, explained that this is the sixth meeting that is being held from the ecclesiastical community to contribute to the training of promoters who attend to the epidemic generated by the virus.

During the days of exchange, people learned about the epidemiological situation in the different territories, the perspectives of the participants after the Covid-19 pandemic and how to act from the different spaces.

Padilla Zapata said that this is a very broad topic, but they focus on women with HIV as they are victims of violence and stigma associated with the condition, which is why they require extra support and to be accompanied.

Esther Iarza Ávila, coordinator of the program in the province of Las Tunas, commented that one of the objectives of the event is prevention, especially with youth, as they are the most exposed to contagion, and in that sense women with HIV can carry out a very effective job in the family environment because they are mothers, grandmothers or sisters.

During two days, representatives of the Cuban Council of Churches, women living with HIV, health promoters and Public Health specialists promoted scenarios for overcoming the global epidemic represented by the Acquired Immunodeficiency Virus.
