Camagüey shows low infant mortality rate in 2025

Camagüey, Cuba, March 24th.- The municipality of Camagüey reached an infant mortality rate of 3.7 deaths per thousand live births under one year of age during the first two months of the current calendar year.

Dr. Mayelin Formentín Zayas, deputy director of Public Health in the territory, explained at the Administrative Council meeting that only one death has been reported during this period, compared to six in the same period in 2024.

The specialist also noted that there has been a considerable decrease in births in the district, with 56 fewer than the previous year, mainly in the Carlos J. Finlay, Joaquín de Agüero, Julio Antonio Mella, and Previsora ​​health areas.

In Camagüey, priority care is provided to 1,819 children under 12 months of age, 243 of them at high risk, distributed across the various primary care areas.
