Preparations are currently underway for the partial extended maintenance planned for unit five next April

Camagüey, Cuba, Jan 23rd.- The 10 de Octubre Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) in the Camagüey municipality of Nuevitas, located northeast of this city, is contributing today to the greater sustainability of the National Electric System (SEN), with the favorable operation of its two generating units, which increases the transfer between the center-east and the west of the country.
Block six has been online since 9:54 p.m. on Tuesday and has reached a power of 100 Megawatts (MW), while block five delivers 70 MW.
Following the increase in power from the start of machine six after repairs were made to deal with a leak in the left side wall of the boiler, the CTE’s technical-productive indicators have improved, and greater reliability in operations is guaranteed, since the aforementioned unit is considered one of the most stable due to the time it remains connected to the system.
Ayram Gutiérrez Ravelo, director of maintenance at the Nuevitas thermoelectric plant, explained to the Cuban News Agency that with this block active they are in better conditions to alleviate the deficit of generation capacity existing in the country, and above all it favors the sustainability of the SEN, by having a greater transfer of energy between the eastern and western zones, a key factor in its stability and strengthening.
He added that among the most important repair works carried out during the breakdown period in the boiler of machine six, were the actions on the turbine regulation system, the restoration of the tensioners in the feed pump line, the change of the gasket of the inter-intake of that same pump, they solved the leak through a plate of the safety valve of the high pressure heater, and they changed the diffusers of the affected burners.
Technicians and specialists from the Electric Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE) and from the thermoelectric plant itself, from the one known as ECOI 8, the Specialized Construction and Assembly Company (ECME) and some new economic actors intervened in the works.
Gutiérrez Ravelo pointed out that at this moment they are preparing for the extended partial maintenance planned for unit five next April.
They have already received some parts and pieces from national industry entities, from various Cuban territories, and others continue to be manufactured, a practice that is consolidating in the sector in line with efforts to find their own solutions to the problems, and a way to replace costly imports of resources.
