Camagüey, Cuba, Jan 22nd.- The small company REPROMAS (Reproducción y Mejora Animal Sostenible), from Camagüey, is working towards better organization and control of reproduction in favor of livestock production, which currently continues its services at the Empresa Genética Turiguanó, in Ciego de Ávila, among other projects.
In this entity, dedicated mainly to breeding stallions and obtaining meat, they have been working since last September, and to date they have shown some progress, including the application of treatment schemes so that cows that have long periods without heat and without gestating, resume their ovarian activity.
José Alberto Bertot Valdés, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and partner of REPROMAS, told the Cuban News Agency that based on the evaluation of the data, the situation of the company and the units, they opted for the technology of the gestation farms, where they concentrate the suitable animals and are treated with antiparasitics, supplements, organic modifiers and hormonal treatments, and as they are gestating they are moved back to their dairy farms, and other cattle are incorporated.
This system, he pointed out, facilitates better access, by being located on the main road of the company, eliminates the long trips that the inseminators have to make to look for females in heat, and brings benefits to the entire organization.
Until now, they have worked with cows and young animals, in development, since the latter constitute the future of reproduction in each company, Bertot Valdés emphasized.
REPROMAS offers a package of services, which includes the analysis of the productive and reproductive behavior of the herds, the evaluation of the fertility of the females and breeding males, and the establishment of goals or objectives that allow the evaluation and forecasts of the bioreproductive efficiency, prior to the adoption of decisions.
Finally, there is the organization of the reproductive campaigns in mounting and artificial insemination systems with the application of advanced techniques and methodologies, such as fixed-time artificial insemination and strategic supplementation.
In Turiguanó, after the corresponding characterization of the data, the historical series and the behavior, they have been supported in the in-depth analysis of what is causing the reproductive inefficiency, an aspect that was missing, commented Maydier Horrach Junco, veterinarian and another of the reproduction specialists who is a member of the SME. Camagüeyan company revolutionizes livestock reproduction with advanced techniques
However, they have the primary records, he stressed, and they have a young staff, which we have trained, and they are very receptive to the orientations, he said.
All this, he added, has favored the results that are shown today, although the most important ones will be appreciated progressively, according to the effectiveness of the actions developed.
He insisted that reproduction becomes the first link in the chain, fundamental, hence the importance of the management of females from birth, with the objective that they are fertile and fecund, and provide each year a calf, with a genetic superior to that of the mother, and deliver the result in meat or milk.

Previously, REPROMAS has operated in state entities and private producers in the provinces of Sancti Spíritus and Villa Clara, Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey, and in addition to cattle, they are expanding their services and the use of insemination to buffalo, sheep-goat and pig cattle.
The small Camagüey company was founded in November 2021 and is made up of a team of 10 people, predominantly veterinarians and reproduction specialists, along with a manager and development officer.
Its work focuses on addressing the low reproductive efficiency of the main livestock species, which is attributed to the use of empirical methods in organization and control, inadequate genetic practices and the lack of advanced techniques, a situation that has resulted in a decrease in the birth rate and overall productivity of the sector.
