Camagüey, Cuba, Dec 9th.- A tribute to Camagüeyan troubadours of all times took place at the birthplace of Nicolás Guillen, located in the historic center of Camagüey, where sincere condolences were paid to Sauro Antonio Fernández, who recently passed away and who contributed to Cuba a wide range of songs known internationally.

Musicologist Verónica Fernández referred to the long list of exponents who represented the City of Tinajones, among them Luis Casas Romero, a mambí musician born where the Casa de la Trova Patricio Ballagas now stands.

Also to Miguel Escalona, ​​Jorge González Allué, Jorge Luis Betancourt and many others who bring prestige to the musical catalogue of the largest of the Antilles.

The writer Benito Estrada said that Sauro was one of the first to belong to the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) in Camagüey, he said that «we must invite the young singers, not forget the songs of those who paved the way for Cuban trova».

During the evening a group of artists were inspired by the songs of those honored, among them the young journalism student Melvin Torres, who is already making his debut on the creative scene of the city of Principe with his own style.
