Camagüey, Cuba, Nov 26th.- For more than three decades, the Emilio Ballagas National Prize has been a space for the promotion of literature and the exchange of an outstanding author from the region, the cradle of Cuban literature.

This was evident at the opening of the XXX edition of the event, which from the patio of the El Colonial Hotel fused music and poetry by Camagüeyan creators and guests from other provinces for the occasion.

Jildo Borrel Cáceres, director of the Enrique José Varona Provincial Center for Books and Literature of Camagüey, welcomed the attendees and praised the efforts of the entire group to sustain one of the most important spaces in recent years for written creation under complex conditions.

He also stressed the need to keep the work of Emilio Ballagas alive, studying it and spreading it among the new generations, both writers and readers.

The music of the troubadour Ariel Barreriro and the Confeeling quartet, together with interpretations of Ballagas’ work by actors Reyna Ayala and Javier del Toro, highlighted the evening, in which the finalists of the contest participated.

In this edition, the event called for children’s literature, one of the least explored aspects of the work of the Agramontian, the winning text will be included in the editorial catalogue of Ácana.

Until next November 29, the proposals of the Emilio Ballagas National Prize will reach several local schools, in addition to panels and debates on written production for children and its paths today on the island.
