Camagüey, Cuba, Oct 28th.- 65 years after his physical departure, the new generations of Camagüeyans have learned to love Camilo Cienfuegos, the man of a thousand anecdotes, said Heinier Lian Carvajo Baxter, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Union of Young Communists (UJC).

Fearless, cheerful and joyful, we remember the victorious guerrilla, who has transcended until today as a leader for all worthy Cubans who defend the Homeland, he said.

The smile of the Lord of the Vanguard, he said, dawns on the children who salute the flag every morning and also infects those who are inspired by his example to excel in the academy, teach classes, produce in a factory or provide medical care in any hospital.

In the town, he recalled, there are many Camilos who face a crude and cruel economic, commercial and financial blockade, resist the attacks of a crisis that tries to undermine the principles in which we have been educated and remain with their rifles alert to preserve citizen tranquility, social justice and the peace for which the heroes and martyrs of the nation fought.

The young people of Camagüey, he argued, ratify the will to be faithful to the ideas of Martí, which were the same as those of Mella, Camilo, Che, Fidel, Raúl and Díaz-Canel.

The loyalty of the Hero of Yaguajay, he said, is multiplied today in every worthy Camagüeyan, willing to defend this mambisa, rebellious and glory-filled land.

It is our duty to honor with our actions the memory of the man with the wide-brimmed hat, in decisive areas for the socioeconomic development of the province such as food production and the confrontation of wrongdoing to show that the Cuban Revolution is unstoppable, said Carvajo Baxter.

During the tribute to Camilo Cienfuegos, which takes place every year at the Camagüey airport, outstanding young people laid a floral offering at the statue that immortalizes his figure, while another group of students and workers received the card that accredits them as members of the ranks of the UJC.

Later, in a pilgrimage, led by the highest authorities of the province, the people of Camagüey marched to the Sculptural Complex dedicated to the eternal rebel, to lay flowers in the mirror of water, as a sign of admiration and respect.
