Camagüey, Cuba, Oct. 4.- The Commander of the Revolution and Hero of the Republic of Cuba and Labor, Guillermo García Frías, highlighted in the municipality of Najasa the invaluable work of workers in the agricultural sector in the rehabilitation of arable lands and productive bases during the celebration of the Day of the Agricultural Worker.

García Frías emphasized the validity of Fidel Castro’s thought and the importance of history to face the complexities of current times and urged to firmly combat negative behavior, crime and illegalities that threaten the development and prosperity of the sector.

The first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Camagüey, Federico Hernández Hernández, expressed his satisfaction at having García Frías present, who has made countless contributions to agricultural development, always faithful to the ideas of the maximum leader of the Cuban Revolution.

Hernández Hernández also highlighted the commitment of the farmers and the best practices in the territory for food production, one of the four priorities established by the highest political and governmental authorities.

In this context, he called for seeking and multiplying good examples, reaching higher production levels and offering food at affordable prices for the people.

During the meeting, several workers were awarded the Marcos Martí Distinction, granted by the National Union of Agricultural, Tobacco and Forestry Workers, in recognition of their dedication and commitment to farm work for more than twenty years. Among those honored was Ohilda Mata Ortega, who with four decades of service in the sector was recognized as a paradigm of rural women.

The activity not only served to encourage farmers and collectives with exemplary performance in the production of agro-food goods and services, but also promoted the reactivation and improvement of working conditions for workers in the agricultural sector.
