Camagüey, Cuba, Oct 3th.- Every October 1st, the International Day of the Elderly is celebrated, a date that raises awareness about the importance of caring for the elderly.
In this context, the I Care, You Care, We All Work Caring Day began in Camagüey, which will last until the 30th and includes a broad program of activities.
The opening ceremony, held in Agramonte Park, was attended by members of the Chair of the Elderly in the city, the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Agramonte University and the Cuban Network of Care Studies, who organized this event, in addition of regular collaborators.
On behalf of the Association of Pedagogues of Cuba, the president of the chair in Camagüey and professor at the Camagüey high school, Ana María Ramos Monteagudo, was recognized for the hard work of this project over the years in favor of support and care for adults. older.
During the dedicated day, theoretical actions, intergenerational dialogues, a community festival, donation delivery and book presentations will be carried out.
Regarding the international commemoration, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Gutérres, said: «…let us commit to strengthening care and support systems that respect the dignity of older people and those who provide care».
The celebration in Camagüey for the International Day of the Elderly also opened the doors of the Chair of the Elderly of the Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz University to the new school year.
In this regard, the president of the same said that it is a course full of new challenges due to the opening of three classrooms; These will be located in the Grandparents House of the Julio Antonio Mella neighborhood and in the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution.
The third space will be in the Lenin neighborhood, where, due to its distance, collaborators who will interact with the elderly in that area are currently being trained, to meet the objective of reaching places where grandparents cannot travel and achieve greater inclusion, he pointed out. the university professor.
