Camagüey, Cuba, Sep 20th.- Nursing staff working in the Neonatology Service of the Ana Betancourt de Mora Gynecological and Obstetric Hospital here have been described as a fundamental link in caring for the life of a seriously ill newborn.

It is a task that goes beyond medicine, which requires constant dedication and sacrifice, as well as a lot of love to accompany the patient and their families during very delicate moments, explained specialists in that area of medical care.

Roberto Carrazana Carballo, head of the Young Communist Union of the healthcare institution, said that these women, for the most part, carry out a task of sacrifice and dedication, a team in which many generations are united and that achieves that perfect binomial between the nurses and the doctors, in addition to the rest of the service personnel.

The young deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power invited them «to continue in this work of infinite love as jealous protectors of the first heartbeat of life, so important for families.»

Nelys Hernández Denis, head of the Nursing staff of the Neonatology Service, commented that the organization is complex because there are difficulties with human resources but they always strive to guarantee the quality of care.

«We are a family, a doctor, a nurse, service personnel, laboratory personnel, all united as a great team to ensure the recovery of the patients who are admitted here», said Hernández Denis, who has been performing these care tasks since 1995.

Neonatal Nurse Day is commemorated, a date to recognize specialists who are on the front line of care and at times when newborns require it most.
