Once again, and as in every daily battle for the well-being we deserve and for the dignity that has cost so much blood, the people will be the genuine protagonists in the transformations, the demands and the hard work required to improve the economy, strengthen human and patriotic values and continue defending unity
Camagüey, Sep 20th.- This Friday, September 20, the first 13 assemblies of accountability of the delegate to his electors will be held, one for each municipality. With this event, Camagüey will begin a significant exercise of participation and democracy within the framework of People’s Power.
By November 8, 4.652 meetings of the first accountability process of the current legislature of People’s Power are planned in the province, with the particularity that the delegates have evaluated the most favorable times for their realization, according to the characteristics of each place, Ramona Díaz Guerra, head of the Independent Department of Relations with Local Bodies of People’s Power in Camagüey, informed Adelante.
The schedule reserves several days until the date of completion of the process in the country -November 15- to reschedule those that must be suspended due to inclement weather or any unforeseen event.
For several days, preparatory actions have been carried out with the delegates of the 853 constituencies, other authorities of the Governments and local administrations, and directors of entities in the 101 popular councils. Likewise, the boards of directors of companies, institutions and organizations update their attention to the population’s proposals and the pending responses.
According to what Díaz Guerra informed the press, the province shows that 85 percent (%) of the proposals from previous processes have been answered. Among the entities with the most complaints are the Aqueduct and Sewerage, mainly due to lack of water and obstructions, Roads, the Electric Company, with a shortage of transformers and public lighting, and Communal, due to problems with hygiene. Social indiscipline is added to the most debated difficulties.
Of the delegates from the 853 constituencies in the province, 38% are carrying out this type of activity for the first time, which has entailed arduous preparation work, the temporary release of many of them from their workplaces to facilitate prior exchanges with voters, administrations and community work groups.
Likewise, a closer connection between the deputies and the places where they were elected has been planned, in order to share with the people elements of the main policies carried out by the Government and to promote popular participation in the search for solutions for the transformation of the neighborhoods.
The official added that 570 young people from the Federation of Secondary School Students and the Federation of University Students will take part as observers, to evaluate around 20% of the meetings and provide feedback and suggestions that will allow any issues to be corrected and the process to be improved.
This is related to the priority attention given to youth and their opportunities to be protagonists in the most important events of the nation. “They will be the next delegates and representatives of the People’s Power, and thus become familiar with the peculiarities of our political and democratic system”, said Díaz Guerra.
This process was postponed in October 2023 due to the country’s complex situation associated with electricity generation, fuel availability and the impact on services. Today, the context has not fundamentally changed.
The US blockade continues to increase its pressure on the Cuban economy, which is also affected by the international crisis and the increase in the prices of food, fuel and other vital products, which affects and increases the cost of the supply of goods and services in the domestic market, undermines the quality of everything done in any sector of society and aggravates accumulated problems.
However, with the conviction that we can indeed resolve difficulties with more work and effort, and as the First Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, has expressed, defending the concept of People’s Power which is «defending the sustainability and viability of socialism in Cuba», it was decided to develop this important process, an essential pillar of our political system.
In the midst of such a tense economic situation, which in recent days has caused serious problems to the electric service, mainly due to fuel shortages, the National Assembly of People’s Power and its Council of State defend this necessary space for dialogue to inform the population, to raise their main concerns and to collectively contribute initiatives and alternatives to solve the problems of the communities.
Once again, and as in every daily battle for the well-being we deserve and for the dignity that has cost so much blood, the people will be the genuine protagonists in the transformations, the demands and the hard work required to improve the economy, strengthen human and patriotic values and continue defending unity.
