It is urgent to solve the water distribution problem in Camagüey

Camagüey, Cuba, Sep 18th.- Some 270,000 people are connected to water services in the city of Camagüey, while a significant number of residents face a shortage in the supply of water.

This critical situation has led the authorities of the provincial delegation of Hydraulic Resources in collaboration with directors of the Municipal Aqueduct of Camagüey, to seek rapid solutions that allow mitigating the problem and guaranteeing greater stability in the supply of water to homes and other facilities.

Engineer Betsy Rodríguez Cardoso, director of investments at Recursos Hidráulicos, explained that one of the causes of the deficit is due to the presence of three piteras in the outlet conduit of the water treatment plant, built between 1983 and 1984.

This situation has reduced the capacity to deliver water to 1,100 liters per second, a volume that could be greater if this technical problem were resolved. She also stressed that, although other work is being carried out, it is less urgent compared to the need to address this problem.

Rodríguez also clarified that Camagüey has 888 distribution valves in the city, but that it is essential to focus efforts on residential areas in the center and other more remote points that require priority attention.

Delegates from the 15th district of the Centro Popular Council, such as Blanca Yañez; Ángel Aguilera, from the 13th district of Latin America; and Ricardo González, have raised the limitations in their areas but have not yet received effective solutions.
