Through the nine health areas of the city of Principe. This program constituted a revolutionary change in the paradigms focused on care, promotion and community work
Camagüey, Cuba, Sep 12th.- On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, professionals from the sector of the capital of Camagüey signed the Book of Honor at the San Juan de Dios Monumental Complex.
In the place where the Health Museum is located, the Commemorative Flag was presented to Dr. Michel Alfonso Figueroa, head of the sector in the municipality of Camagüey, who highlighted the work of primary care in the well-being of the Cuban population, a daily priority in the 280 clinics in the territory.
He identified healthcare personnel as standard-bearers of a very noble cause, that of defending the most precious well-being of human beings, which is health.
Several of the founders of the program in 1984, created on the initiative of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, were present at the event. They highlighted the impact of the initiative within the medical revolution that the island experienced and that is now being updated to respond to contemporary needs.
Alina de la Paz Carmona, a second-degree specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine, one of those pioneers, commented that despite the material and human resource difficulties faced over these four decades, the program emerged victorious in its goal of being the health service closest to the communities.
For her part, Dr. Mailene Formentín Zayas, deputy director of Medical Assistance in the municipality, stressed that at present we are witnessing tangible achievements in the Cuban Health System, including the reduction of infant mortality, the increase in actions for prevention and control of chronic communicable and non-communicable diseases, and greater social participation.
The book and flag commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Family Medicine Program in the country, which represented a revolutionary change in paradigms focused on care, promotion and community work, will travel through the nine health areas of the city of Principe.
