In order to reduce fertility and abortions among adolescents in the city of Principe, it is necessary to expand access to quality family planning services for this age group and comprehensive education about their sexuality
Camagüey, Cuba, Sep 10th.- The Sexual Education Program in the municipality’s schools for the prevention of diseases and pregnancy in adolescence contributes to raising awareness, through permanent dialogue, among teachers, family members and students.
This includes the implementation of a group of educational activities in the capital of Agramonte with the participation of the basic teams and promoters in which different topics related to sexual and reproductive health are taught.
Since January to date, around 90 educational activities have been carried out in student centers in the territory -by the advisors of the assisted reproduction program- on the use of contraceptive methods and healthy and responsible sexuality.
In the family planning consultation, a strategy was created to prioritize the referral of adolescents who have had sexual relations to the consultation, together with the health areas and parents, to assess the use of the implant contraceptive technique.
Reducing fertility and abortions among adolescents in the city of Principe requires expanding access to quality family planning services for this age group and comprehensive education about their sexuality, among other actions.
