In Camagüey you can

Camagüey, Cuba, August 1st.- A delegation, headed by Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, arrived to productive areas of Vertientes and Camagüey, with the objective of following up on the agricultural commitments of the territory, strategic issue of the Government in the country that also focused the debates of the 8th partisan plenary session.

In the middle south of Camagüey, the also member of the Political Bureau, accompanied by José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, head of the Agri-Food Department, and the highest political and government authorities of the province, exchanged with Alexander Gil González, who together with his brother and from using vitroplants, they aim to increase productivity and yield by more than five caballerias of bananas.

In addition, they are dedicated to pig fattening and meat marketing, as well as the sale of raw materials, thereby achieving a productive chain with agro-industrial, agricultural, meat and food companies.

At the site, visitors were interested in the yields and the guarantee of water for cultivation.

In Santa Rosa, the brothers Jesús and Leonardo Lezcano Capote managed to complete the five caballerias of banana and cassava that were planned for the date, with intercropping and organic treatment.

Morales Ojeda pointed out that this was an example of how we can have clean crops, even with all the hard work that has to be done in agriculture and that is rewarded in productive levels.

In the Guayabito area, of the Ignacio Agramonte productive center , belonging to the Ruta Invasora Agroindustrial Grain Company, they were able to verify the result of the work of a labor collective belonging to the machinery base business unit.

There, William Gutiérrez Cardoso, its director, showed part of the 268 hectares of land, of which only 70 remain to be planted, which must be completed in August, all under minimum tillage and according to the availability of fuel.

Although the main crop is banana, with 175 hectares, they have also harvested sweet potato, cassava, corn and pumpkin. All productions are destined for collection, social consumption and sale at fairs.

Roberto Morales urged that all potential be exploited and that efficiency in planting be accompanied by better yields, which will allow for greater productive volumes, and this, in turn, will drive the decline in prices.

“To the extent that we achieve this, we will be able to use the money that is currently allocated to these imports in investments for transportation, housing and social works that impact the well-being and quality of life of our population.

This is an example of what can be done in an area that seemed lost, and that in the midst of a complex economic and financial situation already shows signs of recovery”, said the political leader.

For his part, Monteagudo Ruiz urged to ensure the quality of the seed, the population of the crops, the rotation, and to maintain all the arable land planted, with the use of polycultures and agroecological techniques.

FROM THE GREEN RING

Nivaldo Navarro Montero is the producer of the Los Cocos farm, with five caballerías, dedicated to various crops: banana, in different modalities and varieties, bomb fruit, pumpkin, sip for the production of animal food, cassava and corn.

At the site they exchanged about the use of agroecological alternatives in the face of the lack of herbicides and pesticides.

Another of the advanced producers of the provincial capital is Ariel Santana Estrada. Together with his family and three workers, this peasant produces 11 caballerias of various crops and three dedicated to livestock.

With 28 animals, five of them in milking, he averages six liters per cow, and aspires to extend breeding to smaller cattle to increase results.

He told the visitors that the main destination of his productions is Acopio and so far this year he has planted cassava, banana, papaya fruit, pumpkin, melon, cucumber and corn. Additionally, he is going to experiment with rice and fingerlings.

Morales was interested in the salary, the quality of the seed, the yields and the sowing of food for the animals.

“In order to develop livestock farming, said the Secretary of Organization, we must talk about the food base based on sugarcane and protein plants. Added to this, good management of the animal, the preparation of the cowherds and all those who care for the animals, the care of genetics, the use of insemination, the growth of births and the reduction of theft and slaughter, and the number of empty cows, among other indicators, we will be able to begin to develop livestock farming.

Camagüey has a tradition in this and has a recovery program for the sector, but we must seek to accelerate the results, which will allow us to produce greater volumes of dairy products in the industry from self-sufficiency.

We also have to extend the raising of small livestock in the basic business units for the self-consumption of the entities, and perhaps be able to export some items in the future”.
