Camagüey, Cuba, July 22th.- 325 patients with hip fractures have been implanted with a Cuban partial prosthesis, a fact that transcends beyond the human and becomes a success of the country’s science.

This was announced during the recent celebration of the first Camagüey 2024 Innovation Expo, held for three days and under the auspices of the Territorial Delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.

Engineer José Alberto Barroso Hernández, technical director of the Alternative Technologies Company (TECAL SA), the industry where the project materialized, said that to date 422 have been manufactured, while waiting for the arrival of materials to continue production.

The idea arose in the city of Havana, at the Fructuoso Rodríguez Teaching Orthopedic Hospital, where the eminent traumatologist and doctor of science Roberto José Balmaseda works manent project leader.

Day by day he felt shocked by the number of patients who presented with hip fractures in the medical services and consequently asked for help from the Military Industry Union, whose directors commissioned TECAL Camagüey to seek a kind of cooperation and resolve the problems. difficult technical problems involved in assimilating a prosthesis of that type.
