Despite the limitations that Cuban agriculture faces today, the people of Camagüey do not stop and look for new ways to overcome the impediments with the purpose of continuing to produce food for the people
Camagüey, Cuba, July 5th.- The optimal use of existing resources currently constitutes one of the main premises of Camagüey farmers in the face of the current challenges that this sector faces in a complex scenario for the Cuban economy, worsened by the effects of the United States blockade against Cuba.
Julio Velázquez Ávila, provincial delegate of Agriculture in the Camagüey region, explained that based on the limitations with fuel -essential for working the land- it is important to concentrate it on those productive bases and individual producers who have the best conditions to advance in food production, such as the quality of the soil and irrigation systems, where he highlighted, there has been a response from farmers.
Among the initiatives planned by Camagüey agriculture to make up for the deficit of imported chemical fertilizers in all the municipalities of Camagüey, work is being done on the production of worm humus, which is efficient in various vegetable crops, as well as in vegetables such as sweet potatoes, which have an important level of nutrients.
Meanwhile, training is provided to producers with knowledge about the best planting frameworks and the ideal seed for certain plantations, in a scenario where efforts will be concentrated where there are higher yields, highlighted the Delegate of Agriculture in the province of Camagüey.
