Camagüey, Cuba, June 26th.- The University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz, the first created by the Revolution, consolidates its eight innovation programs aimed at local development in the province.

Santiago Lajes Choy, rector of that campus, told ACN that one of the priorities is to achieve food sovereignty and nutritional education, and in that sense he explained that the international project for the reproduction of cattle with artificial intelligence is applied in 200 copies of four farms in the municipalities of Jimaguayú, Najasa and Vertientes.

Also, as part of this program, the academic institution contributes through scientific work to the production of milk in low-input systems with resources from the farms themselves and to the increase in fertilization through the traditional method.

In food production, considered a strategic activity in the territory, he added that results are seen in the rice activity from the application of Trichoderma, while working on the organization and development of honey centers and the use of waste and by-products derived from fishing.

nutriesperm is applied in the reproduction of cyprinids, the mariculture of red tilapia from aquaculture species in Santa Cruz del Sur and a technological package is used for shrimp breeding in ponds, among other results.

Regarding energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, he highlighted that the University, in alliance with other entities, produces electrodes, metal molds, LED luminaires, provides the evaluation and certification service for motors and has an intelligent system for the energy management at the service of companies.

This house of higher education also dedicates its efforts to the sustainable development of tourism, specifically in the identification and prioritization of the potential and problems of each site as tourist products.

For example, he said that in the La Liliana agroecological farm actions are carried out in the short, medium and long term, among which the road signs of that land stand out, its tourist category and attractions, the generation of parking spaces, the characterization of the local flora and fauna, among others.

He also pointed out that this center contributes to the computerization of society and in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) significant achievements are evident, mainly in the health sector.

In this regard, he mentioned that knowledge about ataxia is acquired through AI techniques, in conjunction with the Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias, the Academy of Sciences of Cuba and the Rafael Estrada National Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Other results, he added, are associated with the diagnosis and treatment of chronic subneural hematoma in Camagüey, the strengthening of capacities to mitigate the presence of microplastics in local food chains, the analysis of biomedical data and the design of a stimulation program for adults. older people with cognitive impairment and executive dysfunction.

In addition to continuing to advance in the development of its innovation programs, the University of Camagüey aspires to strengthen its academic products and international niches.

Among the most relevant, it meant the contract of a doctoral program in Educational Sciences with the Dominican Republic and the beginning of a double degree program, with the University of Pyatigorks, of the Russian Federation, which includes a master’s degree in Tourism Management or Manager in Tourism, as well as summer courses for learning the English language.

Lajes Choy recognized, in turn, the comprehensive project with the Hebei University of International Studies, in China, which includes the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, a Cuba-China Joint University and a thousand-bed hospital.
