Camagüey, Cuba, May 6th.- The Sorbitol Derivatives Subsidiary Company, created on April 12, 2023 in the Camagüey municipality of Florida, achieved one million 700 thousand pesos of profit in the first quarter of the year, with the purpose of strengthening levels productive and important social tasks.

Loynaz Agroindustrial Sugar Company, explained that the subsidiary unit achieved 12 million pesos in 2023 for this concept, which made it possible to generate income even when other indicators dependent on cane planting are not met. and grinding.

He mentioned that scientific projects and research are being resumed with the University of Camagüey to achieve other productions based on the chemical potential of the industry such as paint, fructose, glucose, sugar flavors, liquors, demineralized water for the production of beverages and other alternatives for automotive transportation such as brake fluid.

Initially, the subsidiary returned to its splendor with medicinal and industrial oxygen, and currently the plant steadily produces around nine products, in addition to sorbitol and FOS (fructooligosaccharide), the latter planned in the portfolio for export and which is in the preparation phase.

Rodríguez González highlighted that they have the stability to produce around eighty percent of the plan approved by the country with 800 tons, except for glucose production due to the sugar deficit.

The fundamental raw materials are the Raney nickel catalyst, which is an imported raw material, in addition to the glucose produced in the sister Empresa Agroindustrial Azucarera Argentina and the other in the Chiquitico Fabregat plant in Villa Clara.

The Sorbitol Derivatives subsidiary, the only one of its kind in the country, has a trained staff of 170 workers in two continuous shifts of 10 hours of work, which allows generating profits and considerable savings in expenses in salaries and energy carriers.

Among the planned investments, the FOS plant stands out, a gastrointestinal restorative with international acceptance, in addition to what it means for the country’s pharmaceutical industry.

He explained that it is 95 percent complete and is scheduled for the end of the first half of the year, with prospects of strengthening links with the country’s biopharmaceutical industry and with the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB), as well as achieving the development of the Company and quality levels for export.
