Camagüey, Cuba, January 20th.- Young people from the Cuban Association of Agricultural Technicians recently exchanged information about the need to consolidate good practices of agroecology, the correct management of the land from seed to harvest, and the use of natural products and Forestry (ACTAF) of Camagüey in the El Justo agroecological farm of the main municipality.

The new generations appreciated the experiences of the producer Justo González Jiménez with notable results in food production, mainly in the delivery of milk and goat meat and various crops, in addition to venturing into the project to care for nature tourism.

Even though there are 42 good practices identified for agroecological work, many more are found in the 37 hectares of González Jiménez thanks to crop rotation, soil preparation, soil use and conservation, and the use of natural bioproducts.

Proof of this is the elimination of marabou, ecological methods such as planting fruit trees and ornamental plants, fertilization with worm castings, the use of charcoal ashes and fertilizer with animal manure.

The essence of the work of this 39-year-old producer on these lands given in usufruct five years ago is to achieve a healthy product in a natural environment, where he has 320 positions of Indian coconut, 236 royal palms, red and yellow mamey, mango, guava, chard, banana, crops that support agriculture with a sustainable approach and the implementation of science and technology.

Odalis Marrero Vallina, president of ACTAF in Camagüey, highlighted that this meeting is part of the activities for the 36th anniversary of the creation of the Association, next February 2 in happy coincidence with 510 of the princely city.

He recalled the commitment to continue working, advising and training producers to guarantee food sovereignty and nutritional education to which the country aspires with the help of the more than 1,394 affiliates in the province, especially its young people.

Responsibility assumed by girls like Vania Sosa Fernández, a first-year agronomy student and linked to science since she was little, especially biology and attention to agriculture, experiences that she transmits to her group at the University of Camagüey.
