Camagüey, Cuba, Nov 7th.- After 56 years of being founded, the University of Camagüey Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz is today consolidated as one of the largest in the country, with an enrollment of more than 12 thousand students, 53 majors and 52 postgraduate programs.

Santiago Lajes Choy, rector of the aforementioned institution, stated that the province is currently strengthening the work of the Municipal University Centers with the purpose of making the branches taught more similar to the socioeconomic reality of each locality.

He highlighted the offers of places for the Bachelor of Tourism degree in the territories of Esmeralda and Minas, and the intention to extend this option to the rest of the municipalities in the northern zone.

He commented that in the aspiration to achieve the quality of its services, this staff will continue to advance in the accreditation of the different careers to obtain the categories of Certified or Excellence, according to the evaluation they currently have.

This University, he said, also stands out for the intense research work of the faculty, supported by 47 awards from the Cuban Academy of Sciences and the presence of Yailé Caballero Mota in the World Academy of Sciences.

Although the Camagüey-based house of higher education sets guidelines in the training of new generations of professionals from eight provinces and 35 municipalities in the country, several work priorities are emerging to improve the educational teaching process, he stated.

He pointed out that among the main challenges is perfecting the scientific policy from the consolidation of the eight innovation programs, as well as the University-Business-Local Development link and the visibility of the institution and the number of international projects as main sources of income.

Likewise, he highlighted the need to stabilize the annual defense of 20 internal doctors and 30 in total, so that by 2025 30 percent of the teaching staff with that scientific degree is guaranteed.
