Camagüey authorities evaluate issues of high socioeconomic impact

Camagüey, Cuba, Aug 10th.- The analysis of decisive issues in the economic and social order focused this Tuesday the exchange of the main political and governmental authorities of the province with their counterparts from the 13 Camagüey municipalities.

Under the leadership of Federico Hernández Hernández, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and its first secretary in the territory of Camagüey, and Governor Jorge Enrique Sutil Sarabia, among the issues evaluated were the confrontation with crime, illegalities, social indiscipline and corruption.

Although at the end of the month of July, 49 events of this nature were reported -for a reduction compared to other periods- it transpired that the highest incidences are concentrated in the municipalities of Camagüey, Florida, Nuevitas and Guáimaro.

Regarding thefts of major cattle, there was a decrease, but robberies with force and violence increased in Florida, Vertientes, Santa Cruz del Sur, Nuevitas and in the provincial capital.

As reported, as a consequence of the confrontation actions, a criminal chain made up of workers from the Petroleum Trading Company (CUPET, Spanish Acronym) was deactivated, who stole eight cylinders of liquefied gas when they were carrying out the exchange process.

It was also made known about the occurrence of criminal acts on 36 occasions in state entities that affected the fertilizer and cement factories, in Nuevitas, and centers belonging to Agriculture, Railroad, Public Health, Education, the Telecommunications Company of Cuba, the Sugar Company and Commerce.

With regard to illegalities, he referred to the prosecution of more than a hundred people for illegal activities, speculation, hoarding and reception.

Given these results, Governor Jorge Sutil Sarabia insisted on improving work methods, on the care and preservation of State assets and on strengthening the workers’ guard in labor collectives.

Other topics discussed were the housing program, sugarcane planting and food production, and the measures to be put into practice associated with the banking process in the country were also announced.

Likewise, the energy situation of the province was discussed and the need to reduce the consumption index from the overdraft of 5.2 percent with respect to what was planned at the end of July was emphasized.

The agenda also included the situation of the Maternal and Child Care Program and the high infestation rate of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, mainly in the municipalities of Camagüey, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Esmeralda, Sierra de Cubitas, Minas, Najasa, Jimaguayú and Nuevitas.

In another order, Federico Hernández Hernández urged to pay special attention to the summer activities and initiatives in greeting to the 97th anniversary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro Ruz.
