Matanzas, Cuba, Oct 4.- Due to what has happened in recent months, tourism authorities predict an increase in the number of foreign visitors to Cuba’s main coastal resort, Varadero, at the end of the year.
According to the delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in Matanzas, Ivis Fernandez, this year Varadero beach will gradually increase the number of tourist arrivals compared to the same period in 2020 and 2021, which were very complex years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the last quarter of 2022, during the so-called peak season, Varadero is expected to report an increase in tourist arrivals, she said.
Fernandez added that the holding of several international events, including the 69th edition of the World Cocktail Championship of the International Bartenders Association, slated from November 4 to 9, 2022, at the Melia International Hotel, will allow Varadero to receive a considerable number of tourists.
The delegate commented that the recent holding in Varadero of the first edition of the open water swimming race, sponsored by the Mexican company Gran Retto, showed that more Mexicans are visiting that tourist destination.
The resort currently receives 36 percent of the international holidaymakers arriving in Cuba and offers over 21,880 rooms, distributed in 56 hotels run by prestigious operators such as Melia, Iberostar, Roc, Blue Diamond, BeLive, Barcelo, Valentin, and Muthu. (PL)
