La Paz, Sep 26.- The 55th anniversary of Commander Ernesto «Che» Guevara’s presence in Bolivia will be commemorated with a National Meeting of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, an official source confirmed.

“The celebration of this meeting in Valle Grande on October 8th is of special importance on the eve of the vote on a resolution in the United Nations on the need to eliminate the blockade against (Cuba),” affirmed the coordinator of the movement in La Paz, Jorge Barron.

“It was possible thanks to the struggle of the social sectors and the people in general, who reclaimed the legacy of Commander Ernesto “Che” Guevara and now put into practice the terms of internationalist solidarity, the fight against injustice and to build a better society for everyone,” he said.

The activist made statements to Prensa Latina assuring that this forum marks a very important moment for Bolivians since it occurs after a hard experience such as the November 2019 coup d’état and, later, the recovery of democracy with the electoral victory of the President Luis Arce.

Barron considered that the groups already consolidated in Cochabamba, Santa Cruz and La Paz will be joined by the most recently created in Oruro and Sucre, in what is expected to be a fruitful exchange of experiences that strengthens solidarity work.

In relation to the program, he stressed that before and after the meeting events of political, social and cultural relevance will take place, such as the Reparation of the Peoples to the Cuban Medical Brigade, which left in November 2019 due to the aggressiveness of the coup sectors.

On Sunday the 9th, the participants in the solidarity meeting will travel to La Higuera, municipality of Pucará, where the central act will take place in homage to Che Guevara and his internationalist guerrilla comrades. (PL)
